Prada Fall 2015

Can we talk about Prada fall 2015. This is the best fall Prada show since 2012. While I favored the geometric prints in 2012, the color palettes were perfection for 2015. The base palette of medium grays, perfect pinks and always-welcomed chartreuse were punctuated by small pops of red seen in a cap sleeve and an above-the-knee skirt.

One thought on this collection are the she-hulk gloves. Not surprisingly, the collection included ladylike, above-the-elbow, leather gloves in several hues. However, the green leather combo gloves stood out to me, and I'm not 100% sure how I feel about them. I'm sure Miuccia knew what she was doing, and a few days after look at the collection again, I'll finally get it.

I like how classic but modern the collection is. I love how remnants of past shows can be found, such as the off-the-shoulder dress a la Fall 2013, as well as shoes that are very Fall 2012.

I wish I could see the fabrics closer. I couldn't determine from the video what luxurious fabric Miuccia concocted, but it appeared to be plush silk that was used in vibrant hues throughout ensembles. I was also intrigued by the green leather dress (look 29) and dyed ostrich jackets (look 28 et al).

The set was perfection with its matching color palate, and reminded me of the stark but vibrant scenery of Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Miss Wu Fall 2013

Style.com
The Fall 2013 lookbook for Jason Wu's younger collection, Miss Wu, offers only a few covet-able items--such as a red coat with simple, yet, noticeable details; a garbage bag-esque jacket; and some killer sunglasses--but, overall, lacks standout pieces that are found in Jason Wu's eponymous line.

While the price points are much lower than Jason Wu, I question if the pieces are special enough to lure buyers. The in-between fast-fashion and high-fashion price teeters on a very difficult line, as designers can't add too many bells and whistles that production costs will soar, while at the same time you can't be too simple that shoppers will just elect fast-fashion.

I do have to applaud the powers that be at Miss Wu for selling exclusively at Nordstrom, which gives this sort of lackluster line a sense of specialness that Nordstrom shoppers can definitely appreciate.

Lovelysally Spring Collection

Love these Lovelysally leggings. Lovelysally is an Italian Brand that started in 2011. They specialize in very cheeky, fun designs. Their leggings, dresses, one-piece bathing suits are definitely staples for the upcoming festival season.

Chitown Fashionista Closet Conversations

Chitown Fashionista not only posts fashion updates, but also has been creating a YouTube series: Closet Conversations. Currently in its second season, Closet Conversations includes personal interviews with local fashion addicts. Above, is my favorite episode, which features Sally Schwartz, founder of Randolph Street Market.

Chicago Fashion Spring Updates

It's been awhile since I've written on here, and a lot has been happening in Chicago, fashion-wise. I've compiled a list of some of the fashion-related news that has happened/is happening/will happen for Chicagoans.

RECAP!

  • Gilt Chicago warehouse sale was April 9. You snooze you lose. Unfortunately, since I was away from blogging for a few months, I missed this magnificent sale. I vow to not miss out on highly discounted Proenza Shouler, again!

Shop these places now!
  • Riley in Bucktown is going out of business, and everything is marked down. After a brief visit yesterday, it appears that all items are around $10 off. I anticipate that their numbers will continue to drop in the upcoming weeks.
  • Wicker Park saw the opening of a new lifestyle boutique, Moon Voyage. This week only they are offering 10% off merchandise with the code "tax refund." From the looks and sounds of things at this store, I anticipate that their dreamy outlook will fare well in Wicker Park/Bucktown.
  • The last few months were pretty big for Bucktown/Wicker Park, as additional changes included the opening of Dyptique and David's Tea (not fashion, but who doesn't like to shop with a tea in hand). Some sort-of newbies included premium denim supplier, Mildblend, and Scotch and Soda.
  • Chicagoans can now shop J. Crew's little sister, Madewell in Gold Coast. They have a small selection of Herschel backpacks, quality leather shoes and more chambray than you can possibly imagine. I did notice that the store seemed to lack a ton of selection, as many items were double exposed. I imagine this will change, as the store gets older and receives more inventory.
  • Not Chicago-related, but this is huge: Shopbop is having its annual after-tax season Friends and Family sale. Enter WEAREFAMILY13 to receive 20% of  the entire* site. If I had splurge money, I would totally buy some items to fulfill my current Derek Lam obsession.
Coming soon!
  • The countdown has begun (literally!) for Fashion Outlets of Chicago near O'hare. I'm really looking forward to outlet shopping the following stores: All Saints, Herve Leger, Longchamp, Prada and Off Fifth.

*Some restrictions to certain brands (e.g., Alexander Wang and Proenza Shouler) apply.
